Your guide to – BHIVA Standards of care

The BHIVA Standards of Care for People Living with HIV were published in 2018. While they are very good, there is a lot of detail which can be hard to understand. The UK-CAB has worked with BHIVA to produce a shorter, simpler version: “Your Guide to…” the 2018 Standards.

This Guide explains what you should expect from your HIV care. There is some useful general information in the Foreword, and then there are eight Standards which together cover all aspects of HIV care throughout your HIV journey in the UK.  These include testing and diagnosis, starting HIV treatment, sexual health, mental health and emotional wellbeing as well as other useful information.

We hope you find this Guide helpful. We would welcome your feedback so please complete the really quick survey, which includes space for your comments.

We hope that these Standards are being met in the care that you receive but we appreciate that they may not be, particularly because of the pressure currently experienced by all parts of the NHS and social care services.  Discuss your care with your healthcare team and let us know if the Standards are not being met.   While neither the UK-CAB or BHIVA will be able to provide direct support to you, your feedback will help us to understand what is happening at a national level, and to take action to improve things where necessary.
